Good news for the Bruins

This seems late considering the Bruins were bounced from the playoffs weeks ago but there is a small reason to celebrate. The Philadelphia Flyers were bounced from the playoffs by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
While an explanation shouldn’t be necessary, I’ll explain.
It’s one thing to want the worst for a rival, but Philly did more to earn the disdain from Bruins fans this season than any team, even more than Montreal.
It was Flyers defenseman Randy Jones who checked Patrice Bergeron into the boards on October 27. It was a cheap shot because Jones hit Bergeron from behind and planted him face first into the boards. Bergeron was placed on a stretcher and taken off the ice, ending his season. The NHL, in turn, suspended Jones for just two games.
I haven’t forgotten Scott Hartnell’s elbow to Andrew Alberts’ head while Alberts was down on one knee near the boards. Hartnell clearly followed through with his elbow, smacking Albert’s head into the glass. The league came down with another wrist-slap two game suspension.
For the season, Philly complied five suspensions for dirty play, including a 20-game suspension for a preseason hit to the head by Steve Downie and a 25-game sentence for Boulerice for a cross-check to the face. Why it took the league so long to recognize a pattern and take action to ensure the safety of the players is beyond me.
It brings me a little joy to see that not only did the Flyers get dominated 4-1 in their series with the Penguins, but to get embarrassed in the series finale 6-0 is extra gratifying.
Am I vindictive? Absolutely. And it it doesn’t bother me one bit this time.
