Tonight’s the Night

42 year old John Smoltz will be bouncing around like a little kid tonight for as he puts it, is a new chapter in his life. Well, after spending his entire career as a Brave, the only pitcher in the history of the game to put up at least 200 wins and at least 150 saves, Smoltz will look strange in any other uniform other than the Braves, but he will look good if he even resembles the pitcher he has been for the majority of his career.

Smoltz signed in the off-season for short money, more as an insurance policy when Brad Penny broke down, but at this point Penny has been getting stronger and Smoltz takes over for not Penny but the struggling Dice man.

You just never know how the season is going to unfold, but that way it has created a big hole which hopefully Smoltz will be able to fill.

His days of throwing 95, 96 are over, but he is a pitcher and the belief is he can still get outs. However, the most important thing at his age will be can he stay healthy?

Healthy enough to make an impact not just in June but more importantly in October.
