After missing all the the Patriots OTA’s, finally a Vince Wilfork sighting today in Foxboro. The Patriots Nose Tackle did show up today as the team began its mandatory mini-camp. In Wilfork’s defense – the OTA’s were optional – and he didn’t have to show up to any of them. But, Wilfork did confirm in recent weeks that the reason he didn’t show was because he’s upset with the fact that there hasn’t been any movement on discussing a new deal. He’s currently in the final year of his six-year rookie deal, but he had said all along – despite that – when it came time to strap on the pads for real – he’d be there – and today he kept his word, happy or not.
By not showing up today, Wilfork would have been in jeopardy of losing $500,000. The Globe reported yesterday that there is language that could apply to Wilfork’s contract and the Patriots could pursue that money if he didn’t show up.
