Cowboys Moving and Shaking

Well, their practice facility was, at least. And then collapsing. At which point at least four people were injured.

UPDATE: Cowboys scouting assistant Rich Behm, 33, is paralyzed from waist down after the collapse, the AP reported on Sunday night.

The video starts with the lights shaking on the roof, but then things get serious. The entire facility comes crashing down, leaving a reported one person in critical condition. In the video, you’ll see teammates and staff members alike scrambling to get people out of the wreckage. Scary stuff.

Special teams coach Joe DeCamillis was among those injured. No one died in this incident. Meteorologists pinned the storm winds in Irving, Texas at 64 mph. So you can blame it on the wind. One would think that being indoors would protect them from the elements, but it actually made matter worse.

Special note: I’d like to apologize. Earlier I had some rather insensitive stuff written with this post. At first report, there was no word on serious injuries. But then it came out that there was a reported one person critically injured. I totally missed it. Thought it was one of those “no harm no foul” situations, but it clearly turned out otherwise. Thanks to the commenters for setting me straight. Luckily, the rescue crews got everyone out of the wreckage. Best wishes to the Cowboys family in dealing with this scary event. Hope everyone turns out alright.

Isn’t the glib beginning to your post a bit uncalled for, given the injuries that were sustained in the incident?

Are you aware it’s being reported that one of the people injured is in critical condition? I don’t think it’s appropriate to be jokes about something like this. And trust me, I know about making sports jokes. I’ve worked at the Best Damn Sports Show Period and currently write for Sports Soup. Your report was in bad taste.

You’re right, guys. Poor taste. Didn’t get the news of the critical injury until I saw your comments. Was busy with the Celtics Bulls Game 7. Thanks for the comments. And, again, sorry.

As a Cowboys fan I really appreciate your reader’s sympathy. Its great to see that when tragedy strikes football fans pull together and set aside differences. Thanks again guys.

Does anyone else find it disturbing that two camera men were glued to their cameras and didn’t help through all of this? We see one guy with a camera not even flinch, and just continues to film people when perhaps another body to help could’ve been welcome? If I were a player ducking out of there and I saw a camera in my face, I’d yank the camera off the guy and tell him to help. I guess anything for sweeps period.

    @ Joe

It is very common for a filming camera person to feel removed from the action, or even simply scared to try and help for fear of erring, and worsening the condition of those involved. Many camera people in history have had this problem, and it is very easy for us as third party, calm, safe viewers to remark upon their actions, but believe me the situation is much more difficult to approach from a rational standpoint when adrenaline is pumping and fear is sweeping through everyone present. If you’re interested, the film “Diary of the Dead” explores this phenomenon throughout it’s entirety, showing through acting the same thing- people behind cameras frozen, almost as if filming will keep them safe from the danger.
