Robert Ayers, DE Tennessee

Posted by Adam Hart April 6, 2009 at 12:06 am

Robert Ayers: 6′3 1/8, 272 lbs

You could hear me singing this kid’s praises back when Tennessee played Georgia last season. Ayers was making plays in every phase of the game — even intercepting a pass off Matthew Stafford.

Others have jumped on the Ayers bandwagon, some even heralding him as a Top-15 pick. Rightfully so. His style of play draws comparison to that of Richard Seymour. In his Senior season, Ayers was fully aware of his surroundings, allowing him to play a step ahead of the game. He was rarely surprised by trick plays or screens.

Ayers can get after the quarterback and be a force in the run game. Landing as an end in a 3-4 base defense may be best for his NFL career.

Ayers was also asked to work out as a linebacker at his Pro Day. So, of course, he obliged.
